  • Zur lunaren Deutung (Horusauge als Mondauge) dieser Stelle siehe Derchain, in: RdE 16, 1964, 22, Anm. i. Bei dem Messer handelt es sich um die Mondsichel, die als scharfe Waffe gegen göttliche Feinde eingesetzt wird (vgl. Kees, in: ZÄS 60, 1925, 2).
    Nach Derchain soll der Stelentext mit diesem Satz ausdrücken, dass Seth, bzw. seine bösen Taten, genau in dem Moment gebannt sind, wenn Sonne und Mond am Firmament in Opposition zueinander stehen. Dies geschieht am frühen Morgen nach der Vollmondnacht: Der Mond ist im Untergehen begriffen und die Sonne erscheint bereits. Der Vollmond im Westen hat sich von diesem Moment an vor seinem Feind Seth zu fürchten, der ihn bedroht und Tag für Tag mehr von ihm verschlingt (abnehmender Mond), bis am Neumond nichts mehr übrig ist.
