  • - pꜣ.t/bj.t: Statt der Biene ist (als Abkürzung?) der auffliegende Vogel geschrieben.
    - r nḏm=f: Dies paßt nicht zur Diagnose, daß der Arzt nichts machen kann. Fall 17 ist ganz ähnlich zu Fall 13, mit einem sḏ-Bruch in der Nase. Dort ist die Diagnose ebenfalls ungünstig und es fehlt eine Behandlung. Breasted, Surgical Papyrus, 269 und 270 vermutet, daß r nḏm=f in Fall 17 fehlerhaft ist, daß der Schreiber es ohne nachzudenken in diesem gängigen Satz vervollständigt hat. Westendorf, Papyrus Edwin Smith, 56, Anm. 1 und Westendorf, Handbuch Medizin, 724, Anm. 32 vermutet sogar, daß die ganze Passage mit der Behandlung fehlerhaft und vielleicht eine Variante zu Fall 16 ist. Ein weiteres Argument ist, daß tḫb weder in der Untersuchung, noch in der Diagnose vorkommt und deshalb vielleicht aus Fall 16 stammt (dieses Argument steht in Grundriß IX (Ergänzungen), 80 zu IV, 2, Seite 146, Note 3).
