gꜣw bedeutet sowohl "beengt sein, entbehren", wie "Not leiden lassen". Gardiner, in: JEA 9, 1923, 11, Anm. 4 bevorzugt "entbehren", da "Not leiden lassen" anscheinend nur transitiv verwendet wird ("the breath-giver languishes on the ground"). Im Kontext ist aber "Not leiden lassen" vorzuziehen. Daher wird ḥr tꜣ auch als direktes Objekt aufgefaßt: Lichtheim versteht es als ḥr(.j) tꜣ (Ancient Egyptian Literature, I, 173: "The breath-giver chokes him who is down") und für Fecht ist ḥr tꜣ: "das Gesicht des Landes" eine Metapher für "die Menschen" (in: Fs Simpson, I, 233: "Der-Luftgeber macht-das-Gesicht-des-Landes(=der Menschen)-beengt"; gefolgt von Morenz, in: LingAeg 8, 2000, 75, Anm. 131).
