  • Dieser Satz wird verschieden übersetzt:
    - Vandersleyen, in: RdÉ 19, 1967, 133: „… sans qu’on puisse allumer de torche nulle part.“, d.h. als Passiv! Ritner, in: Polinger Foster/Ritner, in: JNES 55, 1996, 11 ist ihm hierin gefolgt. Klug, Stelen, 39 mit Anm. 318 kritisiert die Übersetzung als Passiv, wohingegen Ritner, in: Ritner/Moeller, in: JNES 73, 2014, 7 Anm. 50 entgegnet, dass der Satz nur sinngemäß als Passiv übersetzt wurde. Auch Allen, in: Wiener/Allen, in: JNES 57, 1998, 12-13 bevorzugt eine aktive Bedeutung von sḥḏ „give light“ an dieser Stelle. So hat es auch Beylage, Stelentexte, 83.
    - Goedicke, Studies, 145 weicht wiederum ab und schlägt als Möglichkeit vor: „… a torch of the Two Lands cannot illuminate the face.“, wobei „face“ sich auf ꜥ-ẖnw.tj „the residential“ aus dem vorangehenden Satz bezieht, was jedoch der Wortstellung im Satz widerspricht. Daher will er tꜣ.wj zu tꜣ.w „flatland-dwellers“ emendieren, wobei sich dieser Begriff auf die Bewohner außerhalb der Residenz bezöge, und dadurch ein Kontrast zum vorangehenden „face of the residential“ (ḥr ꜥ-ẖn,wtj) entstünde. Seine angedachte Übersetzung wäre in etwa: *„A torch cannot illuminate the face of the flatland-dwellers.“
