- Die frühesten ägyptischen Objekte, die Schweden erreichten, fanden sich im königlichen Museum im königlichen Palast und wurden in den 1860er Jahren von dort ins Nationalmuseum untergebracht. Die meisten ägyptischen Objekten des Nationalmuseums gingen später an das Victoriamuseet in Uppsala (gegründet 1889) und an das Egyptiska museet in Stockholm (gegründet 1928). Im Jahre 1954 bildeten das Egyptiska museet und die Cypernsamlingarna zusammen das neue Medelhavsmuseet.
