      Comment on this place: Der Stein von Rosette wurde im Juli 1799 (wohl zwischen dem 14. und dem 25. Juli) im Fort Julien in Rosetta (arabisch Raschid) durch den französischen Leutnant Bouchard bei Terrassierungsarbeiten in den Substruktionen des Forts gefunden.

Aufgrund der hohen Qualität von Relief und Steinbearbeitung ist einer der großen unterägyptischen Tempel (Sais, Memphis) als ursprünglicher Aufstellungsort denkbar (siehe Hoffmann/Pfeiffer, Stein von Rosetta, 33-37).
