Der Satz ist verderbt überliefert. Vernus vermutet, daß in Vers 25.12 rḏi̯ ausgefallen ist: etwa bw jri̯=w 〈ḏi̯〉 nmḥ: "Un homme qui dit ce qui est agréable ne peut avoir un sort plus malheureux / Qu'un riche dont le propos est aigre." Dann muß auch in Vers 25.13 eine Emendierung vorgenommen werden: r wsr{w} 〈jw〉 ḫn=f dḥi̯ o.ä. Laisney nimmt eine andere Emendierung vor: er versteht jw=f ḏd als Umstandssatz, nicht als virtuellen Relativsatz nach einem indefiniten Bezugswort und er emendiert Vers 25.13 zu einem Futur-III r/jw wsr.w (r) 〈ḏi̯.t〉 ḫn=f dḥi̯(.w): "Un homme ne s'appauvrit pas quand il dit ce qui est agréable, / ni les richesses 〈rendront〉 son discours amer." Allerdings fehlt noch die Negation im zweiten Vers. Grumach tilgt bw jri̯=w und z und sie ersetzt es durch ꜣḫ, damit ein klassischer Komparativ gebildet wird: "Besser ist der Arme, wenn er das Süße spricht, / als der Reiche, dessen Rede bitter ist."
