  • Der Papyrus ist annähernd vollständig. Lediglich die erste Seite weist größere Beschädigungen auf und ist tweilweise fragmentiert. Ca. in der horizontalen Mitte befindet sich eine kleine Lücke, die vermutlich daher stammt, dass die modernen Finder den Papyrus in zwei Hälften gebrochen hatten) (Peet, Tomb-Robberies, 28).

      Commentaire sur ce lieu: Inhaltlich befasst sich der Papyrus mit Ereignissen in Theben und wurde vermutlich dort aufbewahrt. Mit großer Sicherheit ist Deir el-Medineh als Fundort auszuschließen: „[T]he local officials did not have the authority to deal with such cases, and as soon as they came to the at-tention of the vizier’s office, the suspects were whisked off for interrogation elsewehre” (McDowell, A. G. (1999): Village Life in Ancient Egypt. Laundry Lists and Love Songs; New York, 165).

    Der Papyrus wurde zwischen 1854 und 1857 von dem englischen „medical practitioner“ Henry William Charles Abbott (1812–1859) in Ägypten von dem Sammler Anthony Charles Harris (1790–1869) erworben. Wann Harris in den Besitz des Papyrus gelangte, ist unbekannt. Unter Vermittlung von Wilkinson verkaufte Abbott den Papyrus schließlich dem British Museum im Jahre 1857 (Anonymous, Select Papyri, 1; Bierbrier, M. L. (2012): Who was Who in Egyptology; London, 2; Brunner, H. (1982): s. v. Papyrus Abbott; in: LÄ IV; Wiesbaden, Sp. 672–673).

Commentaire sur la datation:

  • Der Papyrus trägt eine Datumsangabe, wonach die darin beschriebene Untersuchung im 16. Regierungsjahr Ramses IX. stattfand (konkret an den Tagen 18–21 des dritten Monats der Achet-Jahreszeit). Vermutlich fand die Niederschrift des Textes um diese Zeit statt.
